Hello students, parents, and guardians of future Driver Z students,

As part of our continued work to improve the Driver Z experience for both you and your future driver, MPI is introducing a new approach to registration for the program.

This new approach will eliminate the rush to register on a single day of registration, instead sorting eligible customers into groups and inviting them to a multi-day registration window throughout January 2026.

During your window, you will be able to choose a date and time that works for you to sign up for a course.

What’s changing

If you’re interested in enrolling a student in the spring term of Driver Z, you must accompany them to sign up as a new MPI customer and purchase the Driver Z program at a MPI Service Centre or broker by end of day on Saturday, January 3 to be eligible to receive an invitation for a registration window.

From January 5-24, eligible customers will begin receiving emails with their staggered registration windows and directions on the dates they can sign up for a course at a broker, MPI Service Centre or by calling MPI’s Contact Centre or Driver Education department.

We’ll also continue to offer a general registration period after the defined registration windows, based on remaining course availability. This means that even if you don’t complete the customer sign-up and purchase the service or if you miss your window, you’ll be able to do both and register for a course, if there are spots available.

Important things to remember:

  • Students must be 15 ½ years of age by the time they take the Driver Z Knowledge Test, which usually happens five weeks after the beginning of the course.
  • Before you visit your broker or an MPI Service Centre to complete Steps 1 & 2 of the registration process, make sure you have the correct identity documents for your student. Use our Proving My identity tool to find the documents you need or visit our website for some of the most common combinations you can use.
