Sanford Collegiate had its application to host a Hockey Canada Skills Academy approved for licensing for the 2022-2023 school year. We started by offering one full credit class in September of 2022 using pre-existing approved curriculum loaned from the Morris School Hockey Canada Skills Academy.
Our intention is to fill a want from our community that will allow all Sanford Collegiate students, of all skill levels the opportunity to enhance their individual hockey skills, build their confidence both on and off the ice, and grow their love for one of our national winter obsessions. It is our long-term goal to develop a strong Sanford Collegiate Hockey Canada Skills Academy that will be seen as an asset to our school and help draw both feeder-school and school-of-choice students into our building. We hope to create a cyclical system where the reputation of Sanford Collegiate draws students to our Hockey Skills Academy and our hockey courses draw students to the school. In achieving this, both the skills academy and school benefit from one another as will the community, local minor hockey association, and Sanford Arena.
